AfAO 2020 virtual conference

The topic for our 2020 virtual conference is ‘responding to the COVID-19 challenge’.

Solutions to the current challenge will develop over time and therefore we would like to make 3 virtual deposits, each followed by twitter discussion, using the following timelines and themes:

Identifying the problems, planning and quick wins

Submission deadline 29th May

Use this submission to tell us about the specific challenges you have faced in delivering your outreach provision. Share you plans for solutions and any quick wins you have been able to implement.

Adapting face-to-face provision

Submission deadline 29th June

Use this submission to inform our community about the process of adapting your ‘normal’ outreach. For example, have you modified individual activities or whole events to deliver remotely?

Evaluation of new / adapted provision

Submission deadline 29th July

Use this submission to report on the impact of your new or adapted outreach, based on evaluation data you have collected, or submit a reflection on the changes from your practitioner perspective. If your UG or PG students have been involved, you may wish to collaborate with them on a submission.

Submission format

For each theme we would like to request virtual submissions, between 5 and 10 minutes in length, using any media you choose converted and uploaded to YouTube.

Once you have created your submission please complete this Microsoft Form to submit your presentation https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=lYdfxj26UUOKBwhl5djwkJZukWX272RFgZvP58w06wNURVBLRFhZT081SDBBUzZHUEkwNU02WFk5Si4u

Guidance on creating a virtual presentation can also be found in the Microsoft Form.

Dissemination plan

The AfAO committee will review all presentations, cluster them into sub-themes and embed within the AfAO website.

The committee will also alert members and initiate twitter conversations for members, and the wider academic and outreach community, to discuss and collaborate further.

We welcome presenters to submit under more than one theme, and actively encourage you to do so, in order to provide members with an update on your progress.

We will track engagement with the presentations and discussions online to announce ‘top contributors’ for each theme.

We hope that this will enable all of those involved in Academic Outreach to share challenges and solutions and offer support to our members across the UK, Ireland and beyond.

Please look out for further information and updates via AfAO JISCMail. If you would like to join our mailing list please visit the contacts page.
